Day 28

So it's the last day of February. I wanted to do a more finished piece for the last day, but I suppose I just sketched all day. The ones in blue pen are from wrk while waiting to get tables, the rest I did while watching Young Victoria.

So I need to come up with a new challenge or I want to continue this one. The only problem with this challenge is I feel rushed sometimes so I draw a quick new sketch instead of making a more time intensive and ambitious piece. I'm going to think about it for a bit, and then by the end of the week I'll come up with something new to do. I'd like to start working on my comic.

Overall, this helped me enjoy drawing again, for the first time in several years. For a long time I was drawing but uninspired and not enjoying it. Even when I was in Art school. I think I was pushed in a direction I didn't enjoy, and I should have stuck to my guns and did what I liked, even if I needed to get better at it. My more stylized work doesn't come as naturally, but I like it more. And that's what matters.

Day 26

Only two days left!!! Whoa!

I got home at 11:15 and had to do SOMETHING by ten of, so this is all you get.

Day 22

I didn't have to work early today, so I tried to make up for days of 10-20 minute sketches. And I posted early! Well, earlier than 10 minutes till midnight.
I worked more on the cave piece. I don't really plan on doing anything else with it. Just trying to get the creative juices flowing and practice scenery.

I also did this guy. Inspired by Dr. Parnassus in Dr. Parnassus' Imaginarium. I was a little disappointed by the movie, but it was still fun to look at. I added color really quickly too, but I like the sketch more.

Day 20

It's amazing how much energy I had at the beginning of the month and how my expectations have lowered bit by bit for how much I would get done. I think it's a combination of work picking up and the newness of this challenge wearing off. I went from, "YAY! I'm drawing!!!" to "Oh shit, it's 10 and I need to draw something!"

Did this pretty quick, but I still like him. Or her. It's probably a her.

Day 16

Another bad drawing day. But I still drew.

And a creepy old guy.

Day 15

So today is not much at all. It's just the preliminary sketches for what will hopefully eventually be a finished piece, not just a sketch. I have been watching Avatar: the Last Airbender, the awesome cartoon. Not the shitty live action movie.
So here is Aang and Apa against the Fire Nation's war ships. Tomorrow I will hopefully have a color comp.

Day 14

I watched RoboCop, and had fun. :)

I'm currently working on the sketches for some fanart for Avatar: The Last Airbender. The cartoon, not the movie. Boo. I hope to have some comps for it for Dy 15.

Day 13

Uhg, nother long day. This is all you're getting tonight!! I hope to redeem myself tomorrow or Wednesday.

Bearman. I overheard the cooks at work saying something a bearman, 1/2 bear, 1/2 man. This is a really shoddy bearman. I hope to rework him though.
I imagine he has a very difficult life, and finds it hard to relate with man, or bear.

I also watched Red Sonja, an old Arnold Schwarzenegger movie.
She has the most fantastic mullet.

And from this day on, I will do at least one landscape, or background a day. Probably only sketches. But we'll see. I need to practice.

Day 11

This daily-draw, while awesome, and incredibly motivating, has caused me to lose so much sleep. Sooooo tired. And it seems like no matter how much sleep I try to get it's not enough. But I'm having fun. And it's good for me.
I did this guy at work. I call him the Frogman, and he's a Sensitivity Councilor.

And I also did this guy.

And a little Super-villain action.

Day 10

Just some studies of Stella for today. I hope to do one of mybig colored pencil pieces with one of the sketches.

My good friend Amanda cut my bangs today and brought over her puppy Bella. I think I'm due for a self portrait.... and I may need to draw Bella.

Day 5

So it's no secret that I'm developing a comic. I plan on it being online but I'm quickly realizing it takes soooo much work. Here are two characters from the story. I'm in the process of figuring out how everything will look stylistically.
Here's one of them:

And here's his sister:

I'm working on coloring her right now and I'm kind of liking how it's turning out.
Posted, just in time :)

Day 3

Today was really difficult for some reason. I couldn't thing of what to draw, and then tried too hard. I finally just gave up and choose a couple sketches I did that I don't completely hate. Tomorrow I'll have more time and maybe I'll get excited about something. Also, my scanner automatically adjusts the images I scan. I'm going to have to play with it so it stops doing that. It makes some images hard to read.
Here I was just trying to loosen up.

Feb 1st Sketch

Didn't post my first sketch yesterday because frankly I did it, but forgot to post it here. Ooops! :D
Anyways, this is just a doodle of a character for a comic I'm working on in my spare time. Obviously it's not much to look at since she's walking away.... yeah, sorry about that! I'm hoping to relearn how to paint in photoshop so you may see this again as another day this month if it looks pretty enough.

Bulk Update! Sketch sketch sketch

So, there are no finished pieces for this update. All sketches. Though I will readily admit that I should have started these. I got a bit caught up with Student Government stuff this past week and took a day off to go to the best Pot Luck I've ever been to. mmm, food.
You're even going to get to see some color work! Well, sketches. Unfortunately a lot of my color work is in colored pencil and doesn't scan well, so I haven't gotten around to putting that up yet. :(

These are some links to sketches for a piece where I had to chose a friend and do an illustration with them as a famous fictional character. I chose my friend Shannon and she is going to be Little Miss Muffet.
Sketch 1
Sketch 2
And since the final sketch is so little, here is is!

I'll probably do a variation of the last two sketches. I'll crop in closer but I'll show the bowl. I got in a little bit of an "argument" about how the final should look with my professor. I plan on doing it in colored pencil and watercolor. I feel it suits the piece.

The second pair of sketches I have is for a piece that will be on/in scratchboard when finished. We had to sketch for an image that could come from a film noir book titled, If The Cement Shoe Fits.

I was stuck for awhile and friend mentioned I should draw robots, so I did.

Which is nice and fun and all. I doodled some more, and I really like how the bad guys always get their "just deserts" if you will.
So I sketched a car, run down, old, and forgotten in the woods:

I feel that the car will be much more interesting to look at and is more appropriate for scratchboard.

And the final sketch I have is for something in which I need to have a gorilla in an unexpected place. Thus, "Gorilla Unexpected". I need to put in two people, probably children fumbling for money to try and win the Gorilla, but other than that, this sketch got some good feedback and was well liked.

The finished piece with be done in gouache and the gorilla will be done with block print.

Expect all of the finishes next week! That's quite a bit eh?

In the meantime, this gorilla has something to say....

39 Bus Sketches

My degree project is based on travel, so I'm keeping a travel journal.
Beware, I might be drawing you on the 39 bus!

This woman was sitting next to me, then she moved in front of me. She knew I was drawing, so I think she wanted to be drawn, people are silly :)
