Day 28

So it's the last day of February. I wanted to do a more finished piece for the last day, but I suppose I just sketched all day. The ones in blue pen are from wrk while waiting to get tables, the rest I did while watching Young Victoria.

So I need to come up with a new challenge or I want to continue this one. The only problem with this challenge is I feel rushed sometimes so I draw a quick new sketch instead of making a more time intensive and ambitious piece. I'm going to think about it for a bit, and then by the end of the week I'll come up with something new to do. I'd like to start working on my comic.

Overall, this helped me enjoy drawing again, for the first time in several years. For a long time I was drawing but uninspired and not enjoying it. Even when I was in Art school. I think I was pushed in a direction I didn't enjoy, and I should have stuck to my guns and did what I liked, even if I needed to get better at it. My more stylized work doesn't come as naturally, but I like it more. And that's what matters.

Day 27

So unfortunately I haven't done much today. I just colored Bella and I'm deciding whether I want a bg or not. Hmmmm. I'll see what Amanda(Bella's owner/mom) thinks. I'm going to try and have something good for the last day tomorrow.

Day 26

Only two days left!!! Whoa!

I got home at 11:15 and had to do SOMETHING by ten of, so this is all you get.

Day 25

I got a gig drawing some dog stuff when people saw the drawing I did of my dog Stella earlier this month. Here's a puppy that I know that just happens to be wearing a sweatshirt. This particular puppy is owned by my friends Amanda and Sean. I hope to give them a print when it's done.
I wish I could have gotten further but other stuff took precedent.

The coloring of this will be similar to the one of Stella, bright and kind of pop. I may do some texture on it though.

On another note, besides Daily-Draw. I am hoping to continue doing a drawing a day for March, to just get the habit going and I'm also looking for other artists in the area to connect with. I want to get into a figure drawing class and want to revamp my portfolio. While I may be more naturally talented at doing photorealism and portraits and what not, it's not what I'm passionate about. I hope to do more concept art because that's what I originally loved doing. Hence why I've been doing so many creatures lately. So.... here goes!

Day 24

I did this sketch before midnight...

And then colored him after midnight....
His sinus' are in his fingers and toes(why? because I wanted to draw it)and apparently he has a cold..... if I work with this character design more I may get rid of the weird hands and just have pudgy 3 fingered hands.

Day 23

We've all had these days. Where you know you should draw, but you put it off so long that you can't think of what you could possibly draw in the allotted amount of time.

I feel like I'm worse on my days off. I'm excited for this challenge to be over in a couple days, but also worried that I'll stop drawing again after the month is over. Hmmm. Considering doing it for another month.

Day 22

I didn't have to work early today, so I tried to make up for days of 10-20 minute sketches. And I posted early! Well, earlier than 10 minutes till midnight.
I worked more on the cave piece. I don't really plan on doing anything else with it. Just trying to get the creative juices flowing and practice scenery.

I also did this guy. Inspired by Dr. Parnassus in Dr. Parnassus' Imaginarium. I was a little disappointed by the movie, but it was still fun to look at. I added color really quickly too, but I like the sketch more.

Day 21

I looked up and saw it was quarter of midnight! So here is what I was working onjust before then.

It's not much, but I'm hoping to work on my backgrounds and scenery.

Day 20

It's amazing how much energy I had at the beginning of the month and how my expectations have lowered bit by bit for how much I would get done. I think it's a combination of work picking up and the newness of this challenge wearing off. I went from, "YAY! I'm drawing!!!" to "Oh shit, it's 10 and I need to draw something!"

Did this pretty quick, but I still like him. Or her. It's probably a her.
